I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from the deep south and a BYU student- and never once have I heard anyone in the church condone shaming or ostracizing individuals for being gay or having sex or doing drugs or drinking alcohol or for any reason. At college, people are far from their families and the decisions they make can feel really daunting- and people make mistakes. I have never heard that being a part of the lgbtq community is evil. Many of these answers, and their supporting discourses have long, stable histories. I know people who used to be alcoholics at BYU. I might be wrong.
