I climbed up to Nine Standards Rigg from the cottage, and across to Smardale Gill - both easy to reach across a network of paths. The layout is quaint, but Church Cottage can easily accommodate four guests with a double bed in the bedroom and a sofa-bed in the spacious living room. As the weather was mixed we spent quite a bit of time in the cottage, listening to the church bells and watching the Macaws yes - parrots in the Dales! Would love to stay again. A bit of a deep clean theres a major problem with spiders webs, wasps and insects and a little bit of redecoration and this boat could be spectacular. Perfect for a night or two! The area where the boat is docked is really nice. There is a parking area 50m away and more free parking in all nearby streets. The walk to York city centre is pleasant, and the campsite was quiet aside from minor construction noise when we stayed here for three nights.
